Your Profile

Technical Science or Engineering student.

Your Assets:
• Competent with one or more computer programming languages (e.g. Python, C, Matlab).
• Previous experience working in a laboratory and/or workshop environment.
• Good understanding of corrosion and surface phenomena of common metals (Steel, Aluminum, etc. )
• You understand and apply on your daily work the Toyota way of working
• Organised, diligent and hands-on.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Excellent analytical skill as well as problem finding, analysing, and solving skills.
• Team-worker with flexible mind.
• Fluent in English.

Your team and your responsibilities

Team/division description
Surface Treatment and anti-corrosion team is part of Material Engineering Division at TME. The team has responsibility for the development, evaluation and introduction of new anti-corrosion materials and surface treatment technologies in order to improve the durability of the car in accordance with Toyota 2050 Environmental Commitment.

Your project
Along TME corrossion innovation project, the candidate will focus on two major activities, ideally with equal amount of effort:

Activity 1)
• You will install and manage a tool to monitor corrosion test chamber and sample conditions and improve knowledge of corrosion testing capabilities.
• You will set up an online process/program to retrieve, store and monitor output data from the tool. Data analysis of key parameters will follow, aiming the detection of key signal fingerprints that indicate fundamental corrosion phenomena.
• Scale-up of system from laboratory monitoring to the monitoring of a real vehicle, if laboratory trials are successful.

Activity 2)
• Assist the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for evaluation of vehicle condition. Activities include creation of Corrosion ID training material dataset (e.g. SUS, Alu) and human vs. Machine judgement assessment.
• Perform regular studies to determine effectiveness of AI against traditional inspection methods
• Assisting vehicle benchmarking and survey activities.

Duration: 3-6 months
Confidentiality: Due to business requirement, not all performed projects can be reflected in the internship report. This issue needs to be discussed with candidate/school in advance.
 
It is mandatory that applicants are students for the entire period of the internship.

We can only accept students with an EEA or Swiss citizenship (not requiring a work permit or visa to be eligible to perform an internship in Belgium)
