Background
As a PhD-student you will do this research in the Computational Mathematics (CMAT) group at UHasselt (www.uhasselt.be/cmat), in very close collaboration with Prof. Seal from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis (MD).

Job content
The present work is on the development and the analysis of a high-fidelity, parallel-in-space-and-time numerical solver that can cope with the singularly perturbed low-Mach Navier-Stokes equations in real-world settings.

It is envisioned that you spend some time in Annapolis. Further, there is an active collaboration with colleagues from the Centre for Environmental Sciences (CMK) at UHasselt, which inspired the type of applications for the present project: the numerical simulation of flow processes in bio- and ecosystems.
Main tasks will be the mathematical analysis of numerical methods and the efficient implementation thereof. Starting from simpler equations and prototypical settings, you will successively increase the complexity of the numerical model towards the desired application.
You should not be afraid of both working on codes and of doing numerical analysis!

Profile

  • You have obtained a Master in Mathematics or computational engineering science. (or equivalent)
    Final-year students are (likewise) encouraged to apply.
  • You are interested in doing research in numerical analysis and scientific computing.
  • You are cooperative and can work well in teams.
  • You are fluent in written and oral communication.
  • You have good knowledge of the English language.

    Selection procedure
    You can only apply online up to and including 15 August 2021 .
    The selection procedure consists of a preselection based on application file and an interview.
